The Return of the Alumni Basketball Game
After a Covid hiatus for the past three years, the annual Alumni Basketball Game returned with vengeance! Athletics Director Andrew West ’92 comes with a court-side report:
This year we had alums ranging from the class of 1992 to 2020 return to the place they love, to duke it out on the court and then share stories and laughs in the cafeteria. The format of the game was Even Year vs. Odd Year alums with a few pregame trades to even out the numbers.
Despite a late push by the Even Years, thanks in part to the late halftime (no surprises here) arrival from Terrel Phelps ’11,* (who poured in 18 second-half points with only his left hand), the Odd Years came out on top by a final score of 82-67. Stone Abramson ’19, led the way for the Odd Years with a game-high 21 points. When asked what it means to be the game’s leading scorer, Stone said, “Wow, I had the most points? I had no idea! I was just out here trying to keep all my teammates involved and play some solid defense.”**
After the game, the alums sat around the cafeteria sharing pizza, refreshments, and old stories. The basketball was fun, but it really was so special to have these guys back in the building, smiling and laughing. Special shout out to all the alums who came by just to visit and hang out including, Ian Allen ’06, David Bendes ’07, H Harrison Fields ’11, Stevie Rachmuth ’10, Christopher Stephens ’14 and Nick Versandi ’01. Looking forward to many more fun alumni events to come.
Notes:
* In typical TP’11 fashion, he arrived at halftime and played for the Even Years to make it a better game and get more shots
** Stone never said anything remotely close to this
