2019 Alumni Basketball Game
Alumni basketball players from the Classes of 1996 - 2019 returned to Browning on December 18, 2019 for the annual Alumni Basketball Game in the Upper Gym. Director of Athletics Andrew West ’92 shared the following recap of the game:
The Alumni Basketball Game was a huge success. In the past, the teams were divided by even vs. odd years, or older vs. younger alums. This year the group divided the teams up as fairly as possible. The key phrase here was “as fairly as possible” because whenever you have Terrel Phelps ’11 in the gym, it’s hard to make the teams fair.
The Gray team jumped out to an early lead that was too much for the Red team to handle. Despite a few runs, the Red team did not have enough left in the tank to contain Phelps who had a game high 49 points including 13 triples - a new alumni game record. Terrel also shattered his career assist record, dishing out a whopping 2 dimes. After the game he was quoted saying “I would have had three had Pena made a layup.”
Special thanks to the kitchen crew for the delicious salad, pizza, cookies and drinks after the game, and of course to Caroline Axelrod for making sure the event went off without a hitch.
